Enemy Perspective
From a letter by the Handmaiden Yoko to her Mistress Xilan, Dowager Lady of House Chung. Translated from the House Chung cipher. 2345 since the founding of the Ming Dynasty.
Mistress.
For the past 12 years since the death of your lord you have planned and plotted the downfall of the Song. Your plan has caught them by surprise but as all things more by mortal hands the plan did not work to perfection. The infant named Wan was carried into hiding though a secret passage into a previously unknown complex of tunnels beneath castle Song. Junchurian trackers have been sent out in pursuit but I have little hope of his immediate discovery since the Song surely sent their best retainers to guard him.
Other parts of the plan have worked to perfection, I myself was able to slay the Song spymaster and led the Scarletfists to great victory.
Your uncle, the famed General Kazi Xuan who was sworn in secret to the Chung, was able to bribe the Governor of the Yellow Shoe province into allowing Junchurian Mercenaries to the place of the Chung troops. He mounted his detachment of troops on Junchurian ponies and bypassed the town of Dragonwall to lay siege to Castle Song.
The spy you set to infiltrate the Song household poisoned the birds that lived about the Castle so that they would not provide warning to the Song, he was also able to anoint the wall of the inner stronghold to allow my Scarletfist Clansmen to shadowwalk within the walls. His detailed description of the activities and floorplan of the Song also proved valuable.
The shapeshifter's spells proved key to bringing down the wall and allowing the battle to be over before the Dragonwall militia could arrive to reinforce the Song, but when the battle was joined he was nowhere to be seen. I suspect he was pursuing private goals once the household troops had been engaged in combat.
My lady I still do not trust Acu, he is impulsive and cruel, rather then ask what our plans were to deal with the birds that might give warning, he alerted the Song by slaughtering the messenger dove and hunting hawks, a useless gesture since they could not give warning from within their mews. Acu also slaughtered the Militia of Tai villiage, the villagers would hate and fear us as is but now they have kin to avenge and so will now require a stronger constant presence of Chung troops to restrain them.
The Ginyu rabble attacked the lesser households in Dragonwall before the attack, although their attacks slowed the Dragon wall militia from forming and marching, they had aggravated the lesser house who might otherwise have accepted Chung rule after the Song had fallen. My lady I was unaware of this planned use of the Ginyu and the attack on the lesser houses, how can I serve you if you keep even me unaware of your plans?
I will be leaving a group of Scarletfist to spy upon your son-in-law Chung Sun during his occupation of Song province, I myself will return with the lord after he finishes his business here.

Player Perspective
House Song was completely unprepared for the attack by their enemies the Chung. By the time the House realized they were under attack, their fate was already sealed.
Hansu did his best to protect the women and children, but three ninja was too many for him and the other guards to handle at once. They were able, by luck, to kill one and wound another, but there were many casualties among the children. In the end, Hansu, on the advice of Sweeping Ling, left with another monk, two guardsmen, a nanny and the last surviving member of House Song.
The Prince of Sparrows (fill out the character sheet if you want your real name!) did well in trying to first warn and then organize the members of House Song, particularly at Dragonwall, but like everyone else, his information came too late and he was less helpful than he had hoped to be.
The other monk (fill out the character sheet if you want your real name!) chose the better part of valor most of the night. He did dispatch one ninja before joining Hansu and the others in their dangerous escape.
