Eight Skilled Gentlemen

Which Path to Take

Prelude

At a campfire in the Shan Mountains, a man dressed a bit too well for the wilderness regards an octagonal talisman in his hands. "Curious little thing, I think we should consult a Blue Templer and find out what is does."

In the ancestral graveyard of House Chung, a gaunt figure draped in the darkness and the funeral armor of a ruling lord raised his hand in a gesture of command."Arise my riders, Blood, Fire, Plague and Rot. Ice, Smoke and The one who they’ll see not" Then the sound of cracking stone.

In the deepest vault beneath castle Song, a withered hand reaches out form the shadowy depths of the throne to rest on the brow of a man dressed in purple and yellow who knells before it.
"Be not troubled faithful servant, Moto is raised from the grave, It will be my task to bend him to my service. Meanwhile I have other tasks for you, tasks that will drown this land in blood. Hat, hat, hat, hat." Echoes the Hyena like laughing.

The tall lean Jun lord leans back in his chair to regard his visitor, "I've been told that the mountain is haunted." His visitor looks up with a shy smile, "My Ginyu lackeys can dead with any ghosts. But I need your men to keep what I would seize" The Jun lords says nothing for a moment, then "Let us talk more."

The elderly Yellow priest totters along the path to the smallest temple. His is burdened with a cane to aid his weakened side and a dusty old scroll beneath his arm. A moment after closing the door behind him their can be heard from within the smallest temple the sounds of rustling old parchment and a elderly shacking voice reading aloud "And then the mongoose struck down the demon wizard Ahkew, lord of the serpents and ended the evil that had darke….Acu? Hot dam! Just how old is this twisted freak?"

The hunched back old man walks slowly amidst the ruined tombs in the cemetery foot tall wooded sandals. The skilled gentleman pokes at the shattered stone door of the Chung family tomb with the bunt of a long 8-ringed halberd. "What are you up to now old snake, are you finally desperate enough to trap yourself in a hole." The old man grunts and begins his walk to the castle above.

Player Perspective

Evaluating their many options, Mirumoto Long and the Other Monktm determined that the best course of action was to join with Shin and take direct action against House Chung. They decided to attack at Tai Mien with the goal of assassinating the governor and perhaps destroying some of key allies of both Chung and Acu.

Before the evening began, Shin talked briefly with the group, negotiating who would get how much treasure. In the end, Hansu gave Shin the Sword of the Mongoose in return for the Pig Talisman and first choice of treasure for his master, Mirumoto Long. It was agreed and the deal was struck.

The plan was simple. The Prince of Sparrows*, Fong Fa Hong, and Shing would be held in reserve. Mirumoto Long and Turo would attack Jubei, the snake priest in the basement. Koen and Hansu would go after the governor, and The Other Monk* and Some Other Guy* would attempt to kill the Orange Rider.

All went well in the early stages. Mirumoto and Toru had little difficulty finding Jubei and his snakegirl friend. The fight was difficult, with Mirumoto forced to do most of the fighting. Luckily, the Sword of the Mongoose gave Toru an edge in his battle against Jubei and they eventually succeeded in killing both the priest and his assassin lacky.

Hansu and Koen had less luck. Apart from being less skilled than Mirumoto Long, they fought some difficult opponents. The governor's guard, thought to be a group of barrel chested eunuchs, turned out to be four-armed spider warriors who could spit webs and wield 4 blades with ease. Luckily, they were no match for the might of Koen and Hansu, by dint of his talisman, was able to nearly match her skills.

The governor was killed, but not before revealing (and using) the Talisman of Rooster, which Hansu took from his dying fingers while Kown attempted to recover from its effects.

The Other Monk* and his assistants did well also, joining the battle against the Orange Rider and leaving him lying on the floor. Rather than kill him, Shin's agents revealed that they held someone dear to him and required him to foreswear his oath. He complied, shaming his family's honor for generations.

Several more of the spider agents had appeared in the main courtyard, as well as a powerful ninja sorceror. As the various teams completed their tasks, they returned to the courtyard and joined the battle. Fong Fa Hong and the others had acquitted themselves well against this attack, but the swords of the warriors proved necessary to end the fray.

Mirumoto and Toru revealed that they had found some sort of spirit cage when they killed Jubei and the more learned of the group were called in to investigate. After due consideration, it was decided that it should be taken to the white temple in Tai for disposal and this was done.

On bringing up the cage, the group found themselves confronted by fifty guardsmen and another samurai. Mirumoto called out a challenge and the other samurai fled, rather than face the angry lord. The escapade ended with angry words for Shin from both The Other Monk* and Mirumoto Long, who felt that Shin had besmirched their honor and kept things from them.

At this time tom and Mike are trailing 2 level behind every body else, Mike is pretty much always going to trial at least one level behind and its not of balance for players who missed games to trail one behind, but that still leaves tom 2 down. Do the players want me to do something to boost tom up, or come up with a better ratio for spending chip for EXPs then 1 for 1% of whats needed for next level so that the party can buy Tom or mike up.

Virtue
Participation by role-playing to the setting and involving your background. Each point is based on 1% of what you need for your next level.

Wuxia
Actions and role-playing that play to the setting. IE jumping around shouting about your honor and cutting up things in bamboo groves. Each point is based on 1% of what you need for your next level.

Honor
Overall achievement for the night, killing stuff and meeting goals. Mike is always going to end up with a lower honor number because of his advancement being one level higher. The Honor level is based on overall difficulty of achieving goals for the night, this number is awarded to each character instead of being divided.
