Eight Skilled Gentlemen

Orobouras Requiem Part III

Prelude

Can the company, with their new powers and newly revealed secrets, prevail?

Player Perspective

The group, rested and healed after their second hard foray, returned to explore further. They were almost immediately assailed by the Ginyu. Mirumoto's gift had given him some warning they were being watched by enemies, but he gave it little thought and so they were, at least slightly suprised by what awaited them.

They left the pavilion and returned to the courtyard only to be attacked by a band of vicious Ginyu. Two tiger archers were on the roof over the garden, another was concealed near them. A skull-masked warrior was near the two archers and a bull-masked archer and a shinobi woman with four arms and a pack of leopards were behind them. Also involved in the attack were three hopping vampires, three more shinobi and, before it was over, Chung Sun himself.

The Other Monk* and Miromoto Long made use of their flying powers to assail the two archers furthest from them, while The Prince of Sparrows* attacked the one nearest them. Miru Song attacked the skull-masked warrior and Fong Fa Hong and Hansu were left to face the bull-masked warrior and his friends.

The Other Monk* killed one archer immediately and turned his attention to the hopping vampires. Miromoto Long likewise killed his first opponent and settled on a second, some additional warriors who came up from behind. The Prince of Sparrows* wounded his first foe, then turned to attack the vampires as well. Fong Fa Hong froze the four-armed girl in her place with a deft nerve strike, then watched in awe as Hansu cut down the bull-masked warrior, four leopards the girl, and the fleeing archer all in less than 10 seconds.

Fong turned his attention to some new opponents who had come from the court room, while Miromoto Long, The Prince of Sparrows* and The Other Monk* finished off the hopping vampires. The shadow mastiffs returned and their howls set everyone on edge but all stood their ground. Chung Sun rode forth on his flying ebony steed and Miromoto Long leapt to the attack.

The Prince of Sparrows* killed two of the shinobi archers and was hit once by the chain-wielding shinobi before Hansu, vaulting off a large garden pot, leapt to the roof and cleft the ninja in twain. Fong Fa Hong and The Prince of Sparrows* killed the mastiff's with magic and things were going well until Chung struck Mirumoto and left him nearly dead. Sensing defeat, Hansu offered a bargain.

He offered that only the party knew how to return from the Tain. The Other Monk* negotiated that Mirumoto be returned to them alive so they could pursue and kill Acu unhindered. Chung Sun reluctantly agreed but only after insulting the honor of all those present. He then told them where to find Acu.

The group spent a few minutes in healing and preparation, then headed to the basement. The entire time they were preparing, Miromoto Long could feel eyes upon them, watching and studying them.

They came to the basement and found a ghost there who compelled Miro Song to join it in suicide. Fong Fa Hong sent it to the hells with but a gesture, sending a ripple through the darkness of the Tain. They moved on carefully, seeing a strange blue light beneath the door.

They investigated and found a strange glowing orb in the hall; it appeared to be electrically charged. It was decided to turn Hansu invisible and send him after it, but it mattered little for both the orb and its master could see the invisible. It loosed a mighty lightning bolt down the hall which grazed Hansu and Fong Fa Hong before striking Miromoto square in the chest.

This catalyst sent the group into action. The Prince of Sparrows* moved as quickly and as far as he could putting himself behind all their enemies and, sadly, alone save for the samurai and the sorceror who were loyal to Acu and Acu himself. Miru Song and Fong Fa Hong deftly avoided the creature only to find themselves facing another Acu and some strange lion-snake creature. Miromoto Long slew the orb and The Other Monk* ran past him to find another Acu and a stone lion.

The Prince of Sparrows* wounded his Acu and revealed it to be a fake. Miro Song, heedless of the lion-snake wounded the second Acu which was also a fake. Hansu and Miromoto Long engaged the lion-snake and The Other Monk* attacked the third and real Acu who quickly activated his stone lion.

Hansu and Miromoto set about killing the lion-snake while The Other Monk* attacked Acu and tried to avoid being killed by the lion. Miro Song tried to aid The Other Monk*, but his skills were not quite up to it. Fong Fa Hong launched a spell which smote the evil in the room and left the stone lion and the lion-snake blind. For his trouble, the samurai girl attacked him while the sorceror continued his assault on The Prince of Sparrows*. The Prince of Sparrows* closed with the sorceror whose entire chest opened to reveal venemous snakes. Fong Fa Hong was likewise attacked with a rod of venom by the samurai girl.

Hansu finished the lion-snake just in time to let Miromoto join the attack on Acu. Acu's minions were nearly killed when Fong Fa Hong summoned a wall of fire on them, but they survived to continue attacking. Both the stone lion and Acu seemed impervious to the attacks of the group, but his minions were dying rapidly. When he saw that he was about to face Miromoto and Hansu, he melted into the floor.

The sorceror offered a truce. He claimed that he had papers that would end the feud between Song and Chung which he would give in exchange for his life. Hansu destroyed the stone lion with two mightytm blows of his sledge. After some negotiating the sorceror and samurai agreed to turn over the papers and stand down in exchange for their lives. The sorceror also revealed that Acu was likely in his lab with his last construct, a huge golem of metal and wood.
