A Pirate Looks at 150

November
So I made the mistake of leaving my journal on the ship. As a result, I've not been able to update it for some time.

Basicly, the same cycle of hunt down stupid amazon women, watch Tolgard blow them up has been the order of the last few days. Luckily, I was able to convince the company that it would be nice to SAIL to our next destination, instead of some magical means of transport.
It was nice to be out for a change on the sea--none of this aweful horse riding.

It's kinda fun now to run into these amazons. Tolgard has his spells down pat--I think we're soon reaching the point where he's going to get pissed if we don't let him see how much HE can do all by himself, lol... Comforting and yet unsettling at the same time.

I'm very sure that the priests of Desius(Sp?) will be out for us in large numbers. The weekend's boredom-relieveing activity included purging three temple's worth from some cheesy pirate town. One more name in the "watch your back" list I suppose.

At any rate, I'll probably be able to put some more down in this now that I'm carrying it with me. Just accounting for some damn book all the time is kinda annoying.

Midmonth August
Again, I was neglectful in keeping up with my journal. Hopefully it this will help keep me from longing too much for the smell of the sea, as lately the only odor has been that of dying men. This country of Bistal truly does have the worst taste in clothing I could imagine--I know that the family will be happy to know that some of these plants will be in my possession before we leave. (If only I could figure out how to get them to live for any length of time outside of this damned castle...)

At any rate, two days prior a line was drawn in the sand and the opponents of Bistal came to lay seige on the castle and capital. Tolgard the wizard laid a masterful matrix of these magic-abosorbing crystals in front of the gate as a trap--I was very impressed with his foresite. Unfortunately, hardly any of our enemies made it that far. You'd think if they intended to seige a castle, they'd pack in for the long haul? At any rate, a few days prior, some tounge in cheek talk with the ogres who were allied with this group had them running like lemmings to attack the amazon women, which reduced, greatly, the number of their legion.

The group on Monday hardly had the time to coordinate any attack after running into the carefully dug pits running outside the castle walls. Their recon leaves a lot to be desired--I would love to see one try to sail into our homeland after this. They can barely manage to approach the castle walls with success; at least I can gain comfort that the homeland has little to fear at this point from these invaders.

In the midst of their troop maneuvers, one of their potent spellcasters attempted a quick fix to their problems with a meteor storm spell aimed at those of us on the wall. Unfortunately for him, luck was on our side as his spell barely managed to injure the warriors on our side and through better luck, I managed to drop alongside the parapet to avoid any sort of personal discomfort.

After observing Ulrich and Cutter preen, prance, and complain all day about the "rules of war" or some similar silly concept, I decided that a more direct approach might meet with more success.

While the wizards exchanged spells, I leapt from the castle wall and after snatching one of these magic crystals from Tolgard's arrangment rushed the magic user--half hoping to suprise him with the ridiculousness of my actions. For the most part, I figured that if I couldn't manage to stop or slow him down, that it would be a small task for him to open the castle to the flooding enemy or do more drastic damage to some others that I accompany on this sojurn.

To my suprise, I was able to run in close enough to this mage to throw a stone within a few feet of him. The powerful magics he intended for me proved to be his undoing, as it channeled the stone's energy back on itself and released a power ball of energy whick appeared to have reduced him to dust in the wind.

From that point on, it was a small effort for the rest of the heroes in attendance to control the rest of the invaders. Few men stood before Ulrich, Cutter, or the rest of the army. Tolgard has advanced at an alarming pace in his magics--the lightning bolts he cast about were more than enought to injure or kill scores of men. I doubt our enemies will be so foolish on their next foray.

But, with that mess done for the time being, I'm looking forward to some relaxation in this town and some discussion with the Elven ranger that arrived with the Prince in tow. I have had little opportunity since I've left home to speak with another of my kindred and even though his origins are far from mine, I'm sure the tales of his homeland will be beauty to hear. I'm sure he'll be as cheerful to meet another of our blood in this mess as I am.

July -something
I'm still not used to this riding thing. I'd take a few days on a ship anyday to this mess. I haven't seen the sea in DAYS..weeks it seems, and my heart longs for the sound and smell of the ocean. These forests don't have the same beauty. Especially when we keep running from dank, dark castle to danker, darker castle. Either that or some encampment to another.

So far, I've regretted my decision to come with this group and try to help. OK...I'm half lying. The princess is a sweety lil cutie, but her man-beast guardian Barak leaves a lot to be desired.

At any rate, I've neglected my journal since I have to get that much more rest after riding on these horses everyday. I feel so bad for them having to get used like this everyday--especially the ones that carry these armor laden warriors around. That's gotta be a bummer.

It would seem that our little group has gone and get involved in the middle of this war that's evoloving. It's a shame that we have to be the ones to help straighten it out.

The first barony we stopped at was again in the fold of those same women who attacked the festival of peace. Luckily, the new wizard - Tolgard - has a pretty good grip on the fire and ice spells and pretty much ruined their plans to remove us.

After that, I've come to the conclusion that the only way we're going to get this place back in it's natural state is to get rid of these war-monger barons and the seemingly evil women that are behind this mess.

To that end, I felt obligated and volunteered to basically assassinate the Baron Falkwan. With a little assistance from Tolgard (and, for a change, no unwanted assistance from the musclebound priest and the dimwitted fighter type), the plan to kill him in cold blood was mostly successful, but I worry that we were just doing the women a favor--somehow they would have had him removed sooner or later.

At any rate, that's two down and who knows how many more to go. Maybe if we can do this bit of necessary dirty work, I can return to a peaceful existance on the water that I love. This war holds no attraction for me.

6/26/02
Finally...we docked and unloaded the cargo for the Festival of Peace. It was a good thing too, since most of the rum I managed to stow on board was gone and I didn't think I could handle the whining of the passengers much longer. If I saw one more haughty human noble puking over the side of the boat, I don't know what I would have done--you'd think they'd come prepared for the sea.

At any rate, just when I thought I'd be able to enjoy the tropical paradise that I'd found us on, someone has to come and ruin the party for everyone. Between the flying ships, skiffs with no sails, and the women with the bodacious ta-ta's, it was quite a day to remember, but the start of something more sinister, I'm sure.

At any rate, I was able to assist the more serious types in defending the ships from further destruction (hopefully no one asks where the tree came from) and salvaging the balance of my goods from the vessel I arrived in.

Hopefully, this new land will provide some interesting terrain to explore--I've heard the surf on this far off island is some of the best there is to offer--with any luck the butch chicks with swords won't mess up my relaxation any more than they already have.

(But somehow I have the sneaking suspicion that there's a lot more to this story than this single journal entry.)
