Societies: Adepts of Nim

Summary: The adepts believe that the best use of spells is to enhance the abilities of man. They also work hard to enhance their abilities on their own. They draw a fair number of monks and sorcerors, somewhat fewer true magicians. Their goal appears to be the sharing of knowledge more than any political agenda. c
Estimated Membership: Approximately 1,000
Leader: Avlard the Elder
Headquarters: Jynrik, Hikria
Type of Society: Informational

Public Purpose:

The Adepts believe that men should strive to attain physical perfection. They also believe that this physical perfection is best achieved by developing abilities through arduous practice. They are not opposed to the use of magic to achieve these goals, even on a temporary basis.

Membership Requirements:

Members must have one physical stat (strength, dexterity, or constitution) of at least 16. They must know two of the following feats: Ambidexterity, Endurance, Great Fortitude, Lightning Reflexes, or Run.

Membership:

About half of the overall members are monks as they are best able to see the spiritual side of the Adepts. Fighters of all stripes make up about a quarter and a mixture of rogues and sorcerers comprise nearly all the remaining members.

Organization:

Members are organized and hold open meetings in many towns. There will often be morning and/or evening meditations followed by practice of specific skills. Leadership is based on the achieving of enlightenment so most leaders are older..

Social Benefits:

The Adept are well-loved if sometimes mocked for their zeal. People like to poke fun at them and their exercise and meditation regimen and the Adepts will usually take this good-naturedly. Occasionally, someone will push things too far and a challenge of skill will be issued. Adepts are sometimes consulted when no chiurgeons are available as they know the body well..

Game Benefits:

Healing becomes a class skill.
Adepts may choose to add either a feat or an attribute point every time they may choose a feat (so on reaching third level, they either pick a feat or add an attribute point).
For every third feat they have or acquire from the joining list they may add another feat from the general list.

Penalties:

Adepts may not take attribute bonuses to their Int, Wis or Cha unless they've had at least that much added to their Str, Dex and Con. (so an adept who reaches 8th level and has never added to his Con, may not add to his Int, Wis, or Cha)..
