I've never actually tried the LOTR game and I may just sell what I've got - they appear to be popular on ebay at the moment.

On Sunday, 03-Feb-02 15:38:36 EST, Steve said
I got the box o' Iron Shadows yesterday. Damage was about 55.00 for I think 10 starters.

On Sunday, 13-Jan-02 23:48:47 EST, Tim said
I could chip in for some boosters. Is the Lord of the Rings game any good? I would be up for trying it.

On Tuesday, 08-Jan-02 18:29:00 EST, Steve said
Just looked on ebay, we could get a two box lot of broadsides boosters (72 in all) for 45.00

On Tuesday, 08-Jan-02 18:25:03 EST, Steve said
I don't think we should offer points for cards this time, I think we should just issue a booster each night you show up and track the points for a winner. That will, I think, keep the winner keeps winning thing down and also extend the life of our boosters. I don't know what our total inventory is, I've got 36 boosters total. What's left in the other stash?

On Tuesday, 18-Dec-01 11:58:17 EST, Steve said
Okay, so we haven't played this in a while. I do have enough of the old Lord of the Rings game to do a sealed deck season or two (10 starters, 72 boosters). Any interest?

On Saturday, 27-Oct-01 19:46:41 EDT, Tim said
I shall SINK ya all.

On Thursday, 25-Oct-01 12:16:53 EDT, Steve D. said
I'm probably going to see Howard today or tomorrow. Does anyone need anything? I'm pretty sure he still has Iron Shadows.

On Wednesday, 24-Oct-01 17:40:48 EDT, Tim said
7th Sea Has been moved to Steves for tonight.

On Tuesday, 23-Oct-01 21:40:18 EDT, Joe. said
I will be unable to attend Wednesday's card game... Steve, will you be going to the entertainer's party? David Austin and I are going...

and Mike seemed depressed.

On Friday, 19-Oct-01 17:58:40 EDT, Tim said
Well I beat Mike and Joe each once and Joe beat me once.

On Friday, 19-Oct-01 11:07:32 EDT, JOE said
well, we had a big game with joe joe lou and mike and tim was unable to tear himself away from diablo II.
Every one was taking pot shots at mike's black frieghter cuss we know what happens when he's able to build up, I finished him off when he ran to the trade sea end with me to get away from J and L.
J and L then tapped out in the mirror and I got over there from the trade with a card effect so that I was able to finish them with 3 cannoners and 3 swivel guns. Mike a tim played one or two games, I m not sure who won but mike seems depressed.
Me and lou play two games, in the first I kept getting guys out and chased lou down. In the second we both built up and went at it, with me winning due to the fact that I was sitting in the Frothing sea and was able to bring in my two merchant ships untapped from the frothing and I was able to twice a turn untap my topman who could absorbe 4 damage.
J and T played a game or two but again Im not sure who won, although Mike was looking depressed.

On Wednesday, 17-Oct-01 15:09:58 EDT, Steve D. said
I'm probably not going to be playing tonight. I'll be more certain as the time approaches, but at the moment I'd call me a no...

On Wednesday, 10-Oct-01 09:39:11 EDT, Tim said
OK so I stopped by to see Steve last night he is doing much better. They think he will get a normal room today and move out of ICU.

On a side note I will be going to the WINGS game tonight so I won't be able to play 7th Sea.
But Joe should be home and of course your welcome to play without me.

Dam the Axis and Allies thing sounds good. It's been a long time since I've played

On Tuesday, 09-Oct-01 15:08:13 EDT, Joe said
Well there are a few alternatives:
1) kidnap steve from the hospital, he'll be too drugged up to put up much of a fight.
2) play in steves room at hospital, if the staff bothers us, we can claim its the innovative "pirate Therapy" being used to help prepare the patient for a leg amputation.
3) place a bounty on lou's head and have him dragged to the game.
4) play something else with those who can show up, Axis en Allies?

On Tuesday, 09-Oct-01 00:30:37 EDT, Joe. said
I spoke with Lou today who said that he wouldn't be able to make it on Wed. With Steve out of commision I think that we should postpone this week's session. Let me know what you think!

On Thursday, 04-Oct-01 12:12:10 EDT, Joe said
since we only got about 3 games left in this season, you might wanna think about packaging up 6 sets of indenticle cards as starters for the nest season, as the current supply is 6 different starter decks, about 4 copies each of 2 other starter decks and 12 boosters.

On Thursday, 04-Oct-01 10:39:01 EDT, Joe. said
Hey guys... sorry about last night... how did it go? I got a bunch of new cards that everyone can pick over. I won a bid for 1000 cards from ebay, but the 1000 cards turned out to be just about 100 cards and around 10 copies of each... so it wasn't such a great find. You will all be welcome to whatever you want...it is a good smattering of all of the commons and uncommons letters A - G. I'll bring them next Wednesday.

On Thursday, 27-Sep-01 18:18:41 EDT, Tim actually said
"By then Steve and Lou had tacked out and were cleaned up by JOE."

On Thursday, 27-Sep-01 16:00:33 EDT, Steve D. said
Hmm. I seem to remember that JOE was the one who kicked my ass to the curb. I think you've got it backwards. JOE wiped me out (with a little help from Lou) - I know I was gone first.

On Thursday, 27-Sep-01 14:00:46 EDT, Tim said
I had the worst start ever and everyone should have wiped me off the board from the start. Instead they let me hang around untill I was able build up and finish JOE off. By then Steve and Lou had tacked out and were cleaned up by JOE.

Speaking of that... Steve- I have had that copy of "Dead Man" in my computer backpack every weekend so far out at the fair... please remind me to give it back to you if I once again forget.
...and I'd like to come over and watch the Star Trek episode since I no longer trust myself to borrow things and return them in a timely manner...

On Wednesday, 26-Sep-01 19:21:33 EDT, Steve said
Funny you shoudl mention that - kristie and I are fighting with my vcr now.

On Wednesday, 26-Sep-01 18:52:42 EDT, JOE said

On Wednesday, 26-Sep-01 18:03:53 EDT, Joe. said
Hey guys... sorry but I won't be able to make it tonight... there is some shit going on that I have to deal with. I'll talk to you all next week and I hope that your tiny ships are ready to be tossed then!

On Friday, 21-Sep-01 09:46:57 EDT, Anonymous said
Wierd game, mike had his black frieghter and tim the larger of his corsair ships, both of them filled them up pretty quick.
Lou had the crismson rodger and I had sea dogs but we were both filling up slow. Me and lou got into it and both decided that haveing the two small ship tap out was suiside so we truced till the mike and tim was out. Tim did a kamakazi on mike and was wiped out, then me and lou taped out finishing mike off, then I was able to finish off while we was tapped with the 3 swivel guns I had gotten out.

On Thursday, 20-Sep-01 23:45:51 EDT, Steve D. said
So Lou told me there was only one game, but I forget who he said won.

On Wednesday, 19-Sep-01 17:11:42 EDT, Lou said
I am not going to the Lodge meeting. If someone could give me a call later on and let me know what if happening for tonight I would appreciate it.

On Wednesday, 19-Sep-01 16:31:42 EDT, Steve D. said
I can't speak for him, but I also can't remember the last Lodge meeting he attended, so I would guess that it isn't a problem for him.

On Wednesday, 19-Sep-01 15:23:02 EDT, Joe. said
So are we going to wait? Is Lou going to be at the same meeting? There are lots of things I should do... how about everyone else?

On Tuesday, 18-Sep-01 23:13:42 EDT, Steve D. said
I won't be there tomorrow night; I have a lodge meeting to attend.

On Wednesday, 12-Sep-01 17:02:42 EDT, Lou said
I should be there. Atthis point I may be a bit late. Don't know how late though.

On Wednesday, 12-Sep-01 10:58:24 EDT, Joe. said
I'm in! Tonight I'll fight like a Frenchman! oh wait... I mean tonight I'll fight like something which scares you... yeah that's it.

On Wednesday, 12-Sep-01 09:49:40 EDT, Steve D. said
Is everyone still good for tonight? I'm hoping none of us lost anyone, but I'm not sure about work schedules and what not. If you're still in, please say so...

On Monday, 27-Aug-01 11:14:14 EDT, Lou said
Wednesday should be good for me. I should be sufficiently recovered from the weekend by then.

On Monday, 27-Aug-01 10:05:06 EDT, Steve D. said
So last week's "exhibition" didn't happen. Anyone up for another stab this Wednesday? That means that a) everyone can probably attend the real opening (September 5?) and b) the next league would start on Sept 5 and probably run until the end of October.

Wed is also fine for me... Lou is also in the same boat as we are, Steve. Unfortunately for me, I will be out of town (fishing in Canada) this coming Wednesday- I'd miss out on opening day if we couldn't postpone it until Thursday. To sum up: Mon-Thurs is good for me.

On Thursday, 23-Aug-01 09:01:22 EDT, Mike said
Friday-Sunday is bad for me Wensday find.

On Wednesday, 22-Aug-01 23:54:23 EDT, Steve D. said
Okay, so what day do people want to resume play on? I'm pretty much out for Friday - Sunday and I bet Joe's in the same spot. Does anyone else have a preference? Can we do it on Wednedsdays?

On Wednesday, 22-Aug-01 21:59:25 EDT, Steve D. said
I think they sell for about 10 bucks each.

On Wednesday, 22-Aug-01 16:58:34 EDT, Joe. said
So... how much would a couple of them cost me if I wanted to buy them individually?
If we all put together card "Wish Lists" would we have a chance at getting them ordered for cheaper?

On Tuesday, 21-Aug-01 11:56:15 EDT, Steve D. said
I don't have one, but I believe it adds 2 to your crew maximum.

On Thursday, 16-Aug-01 20:51:44 EDT, Joe said
So did anyone come up with a copy of "hammocks?" I would be interrested in seeing what it does.

On Thursday, 26-Jul-01 20:57:52 EDT, Steve D. said
I think we should also have a $20 rule on buying cards for next season, just so no one goes nuts...
I also saw sailor moon, x-men, wizard in training, and terminator all very cheap today if anyone is interested.

On Thursday, 26-Jul-01 19:22:20 EDT, Joe said
Looks like we are planing to do a anything goes season, buy cards if you want to, use old ones, etc... for a eight week season. Afterwards you probally will want to keep your old cards for when other editions of 7th sea start hiting the less then $20 price and we start a new season of 7th seas.

On Monday, 23-Jul-01 17:49:21 EDT, Joe. said
I thought that since last week was cancelled due to Pennsic packing that this and next week's sessions would be delayed and we would play again when everyone was back, so I made other plans. If you want to play anyhow, it's cool- we can begin with a new session when they return from War. What is the plan for the next session as far as what cards we can use? Will we be able to use and trade all of our cards? Do we have more cards to give out? New ships/captains? Anything new or different?

On Monday, 23-Jul-01 13:05:50 EDT, Lou said
I can play this week. I leave for Pennsic on Aug. 4th so I will not be able to play next week.

On Monday, 23-Jul-01 11:57:24 EDT, Steve D. said
When do we need to break for Pennsic? Should this week be the final and then start a new league after we take our Pennsic break?

no problem. Having been in that situation where I wasn't having fun I can totally understand. I think eveyone has been there at one point or another.

On Thursday, 21-Jun-01 10:57:20 EDT, Joe. said
Hey guys. I wanted to tell Lou and Tim that I was sorry for the way that I was acting last night... I was really frustrated and not having much fun and I am afraid that I may have ruined your fun as the result. I will try and be in better spirits for the next game and not let situations get to me. I have been having fun so far and would like to continue to, and I also hope that you are feeling better Steve and will be able to make it next time.

On Thursday, 14-Jun-01 09:41:48 EDT, Lou said
There were a whole bunch of games played. Tim has the official results. Oh yeah... I Finally Won A Game!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

On Thursday, 14-Jun-01 09:30:38 EDT, Steve D said
I'm sure a few people will still want to trade here and there. I'm not too worried about the whole thing. Did you actually play any games?

On Thursday, 14-Jun-01 02:02:10 EDT, Joe. said
So we have decided that we are only using cards we earn from this season... we have also done some heavy trading... as jOE noted, "this will help to stretch out the time before we need to start buying (with real money) more cards." Sorry you couldn't make it Steve, feeling better? I think that you may have been seriously hurt by not being there for the first night... we might want to consider giving you something just so that you can compete... maybe a new booster or maybe five old cards or something... wadda you guys think?

On Thursday, 14-Jun-01 01:51:47 EDT, The General said
Huh huh huh... Victory is rightfully mine! Now that I know your weaknesses I will be able to modify my already successful strategies into flawless tactics. I will clean the barnicals from the bottom of my ship as I glide over your sails after sinking you all!

I'll know more after today. The basic deal is that Joe, Lou and Tim are tied up Tuesdays and Thursdays and I have therapy Monday, Wednesday and Friday. After I get through one I should have a better grasp of my schedule.

On Wednesday, 13-Jun-01 16:24:55 EDT, Lou said
Thursday is bad for me now. I plan on going to ammoring at Brannos's. Got to start getting stuff prepared for war.

On Wednesday, 13-Jun-01 15:23:45 EDT, Joe. said
Would you be able to make it tomorrow? Is Thurs. bad for someone else? I don't mind waiting if everyone can be there... even until next week...

On Wednesday, 13-Jun-01 13:41:22 EDT, Steve D. said
I appreciate the thought, but I think you should go ahead and get started without me unless there's someone else who can't make it.

Should we postpone again?

On Wednesday, 13-Jun-01 12:30:50 EDT, Steve D. said
At the moment, it looks like I won't be making it tonight after all.

On Wednesday, 06-Jun-01 16:39:55 EDT, Tim said
I don't really care what we do with the old cards. I wouldn't mind useing them though. But if we decide to start from scratch again then bring in our other cards later I don't have a problem with that.

On Wednesday, 06-Jun-01 16:24:13 EDT, Voices in my head said
...sure wonder what Lou, Joe, Tim and Mike all think about how to handle last seasons cards...

On Wednesday, 06-Jun-01 15:53:43 EDT, Tim said
So are we playing 7th Sea tonight?

On Wednesday, 06-Jun-01 13:02:58 EDT, Steve said
I'm good for either next week, but Wednesday would be better for me overall.

On Tuesday, 05-Jun-01 21:28:51 EDT, Joe. said
...so is that next Wed. or next Thurs.?
...and about the cards from last season?

On Tuesday, 05-Jun-01 20:45:33 EDT, Steve D. said
There's no rush, we can start next week as easily as this - I'm sure we can find some other diversion to enjoy.

On Tuesday, 05-Jun-01 19:25:32 EDT, Joe. said
Sorry, but I won't be able to make a Wed. night game this week... I didn't know that we had changed it. If Tim and Lou both have things to do on Thurs. then it is obviously better two loose one player than two... I'll see you guys next week then I suppose.
Was there ever a decision about what to do with the cards we have already bought? I just sort of object to having to pay coin again for cards I already had to earn... I hope that we can find a way around it but I will bow to the wishes of the group.

On Tuesday, 05-Jun-01 15:21:40 EDT, Lou said
I thought we were going to play on Wednesday. Since me and Tim are leaving for the race on Friday at 1AM playing on Thursday won't be good.

On Tuesday, 05-Jun-01 14:18:32 EDT, Steve D. said
What's our plan for a day? Thursdays still?

On Monday, 04-Jun-01 21:07:25 EDT, Joe. said
Maybe we could still use all of our cards and offset the "rich get richer" effect by making the cost for new boosters cheaper for those with the lowest ranking from last season and slightly higher for the more successful players. Say it'll cost only 2 coins for a new booster for the two players who came in the lowest in the ranking and it'll cost 4 coins for the two players who came in first and second in the last season. Everyone in the middle would still pay the standard 3 coins. Since this is a huge advantage maybe after the third week it should go back to normal costs for everyone, but by then Lou and Mike should have enough cards to send anyone they choose to the bottom of the La Boca while Steve and Tim wouldn't really loose anything that they have and still be able to develop some while letting the rest of us catch up.

On Monday, 04-Jun-01 15:38:40 EDT, Steve D. said
I'd also be in favor of slightly fewer coins for bought boosters as long as they were available in our league(so 2 for the ones we have, 4 for anything we don't have). I think it helps the league (somewhat) for people to buy stuff and bring it even if for no other reason than to give us more to use the other way.

On Monday, 04-Jun-01 15:35:08 EDT, Steve D. said
I think the suggestion was that if I really wanted to, I could pay three coins to be allowed to buy a card. If I didn't want to, I wouldn't have to and could instead use my coins to do one of the other things.
The downside to the "use all your cards" thing is that if you and I are equally skilled and I have a bigger card pool than you, you probably won't be able to build as good a deck - I might even be able to get a better deck even if you're a little better than me. It becomes kind of a trap - those who are winning keep winning, those who aren't quit playing (eventually - I think both Lou and Mike had that level of frustration at some point last season).

On Saturday, 02-Jun-01 18:48:13 EDT, Joe. said
Sounds good but I really don't want to spend money if I can help it... do you really find that your deck is lacking in an area enough to really need to buy more cards that are almost certainly somewhere in the mix? If I have 'em and you want 'em that bad I'll give 'em up... I am starting to think that we all got the hang of the game by now and are chomping at the bit to tune our new decks and I don't see why we don't reward Lou with the left-over coin from the last season, reward Steve for being the winner and then just dive right into the new season and we all can use all of our cards... after all, we already spent coin to get 'em.

On Saturday, 02-Jun-01 15:52:35 EDT, JOe said
1 coin for 3 old cards, 3 coins for new booster, 3 coins for bought booster, 3 coins for single bought card?

Huh huh huh... Vee see zat our feeble-minded enemies shall bee no match for hour strategies! Vee shall teach you how a vore is foot, Eisen-style!

On Friday, 01-Jun-01 13:55:43 EDT, JOe said
as of end of the night, coin must be spent on cards or saved untill the open season, no cards bought from last season can be used for the moment, no tradeing was allowed that night( although thier was a lot of comparing and showing of cards that could only be used by one faction, with the words "see me next week" being bandyed about).
some leftover coins were donated to lou since he came in last, but were not sure if he took them. since thier was 6 more broadside decks left I put aside 12 booster for another season.

On Friday, 01-Jun-01 12:35:23 EDT, Steve said
So what did you guys decide about boosters, booty and whatnot for this season?

On Sunday, 27-May-01 09:21:33 EDT, Joe said
yeah, like start with a booster or choose 15 cards from your old stock that can be added to your deck, but the 15 can be different each week, but with that variety 15 is a lot, mayby 10 for the first week, then add 5 to your add in number for the same cost as a booster

On Saturday, 26-May-01 21:52:33 EDT, Joe. said
...and then in the third season we will get to choose to use any of the ships and any of the cards we have?

On Saturday, 26-May-01 19:22:23 EDT, Joe. said
I'm good with the "X" number of cards from your reserve stock, but I agree with jOE and think that you should be able to swap cards from your bank, as long as you kept the total number to "X."

On Saturday, 26-May-01 10:53:37 EDT, joE said
How about adding 5 cards a week from your privette stock, so that You aint stuck permanetlly with the your first choices.

On Saturday, 26-May-01 10:36:05 EDT, Steve D. said
Thinking about next season:
What if you got your new starter and 2 boosters then got to choose either one or two more boosters or 15 or 30 cards from your current pile to use? So I could take Starter, 4 boosters or Starter, 3 boosters, 15 cards or Starter, 2 boosters, 30 cards. I would think we could open the first two boosters, then allow trading using any cards you had, then you make your 30/0, 15/1, 0/2 decision.

Just sit right back and you'll hear a tale
A tale of a fateful trip.
they started from the Frothing Sea
aboard their leaky ship.
The mate was a foo-foo girly man,
the captain was his beau.
They did not tell their aging crew
who spotted the duo (spotted the duo).
The weather started getting rough,
the tiny ship was tossed.
they dared to fight the great Revensj
and Uncharted Course was lost,(Uncharted course was lost).
They ran aground somewhere I heard,
though where I never knew.
The foo-foo mate, the captain too,
they married then, man and "wife"
they set up house on that island and in their hut,
they did what girly men do...

Hey! I should pay more attention... I'm all for my getting the whale of a tale for my martyrdom in killing Mike. Also I think that it is cool that you get to use the card (especially because this whole thing is happening because of your efforts and as far as I have seen so far, your expense...) but I think that you might want to wait until next season to use it when we all get new factions. Next season we all will have more than one faction to choose from and you will have an extra one... seems more fair. I am still tuning my deck and I would rather play with my own all night long so that I can get the much needed play time to see if it is working.

On Monday, 07-May-01 22:17:59 EDT, Steve D. said
The bad news in this case is that the card is a ship - it has a crew of 6 and a move cost of 2. It does do a good job with adventures, reducing their cost to 3 (minimum 0), but 6 crew isn't many.

Another thought I had (well two): first, we should probably give Lou a few backpoints. Second, I think it might be kind of fun if we played reversed decks next season. Whoever finishes first swaps with whoever finishes last. Maybe we could just do that as a short season for June - there'd probably only be 3 weeks for the whole deal.

Last night we talked about having the high point getter for the week designated as the "scourge of the sea" and worth a couple of gold bonus to the first person to beat him the following week. Sounds like a plan to me. I also think it should stay out there 'til he loses and be cumulative. So if Joe wins week one, there's two on him. If he wins again the following week and no one beats him, there's 4 on him. If Tim wins the third week but no one beats Joe (maybe he didn't make it), then Joe is now worth 4 and Tim is worth 2.
Any objections?

Coll I'm in for a Game tonight.

On Friday, 06-Apr-01 15:22:54 EDT, Steve D. said
I was thinking about it and I think "on time, ready to play" should just be worth a couple of points. I think scoring should be similar to Doomtown. 1 pt for playing and the winner gets a bonus for each player he beats (so if you play a three player, winner gets 3, losers 1 each). I think we should play one night, count the scores and time and then figure out our "burn rate".
I kind of hope we can get at least a couple of seasons out of what we've got, so the point system should be based on that. Once we figure out that you score an average of x points a night, we can divide the number of boosters by the points-nights to see how many points per booster. (So if we want to give 40 boosters this season and people score about 10 points a night each, we'd say 5 people * 7 sessions * 10 points = 350 total points. Each booster should take about 9 pts. to get).
We can also have a "recycle season" (or an expansion draft) where you get a new starter and can save 10% of your existing card base, the rest go in a pile and are divided equally for the new season. We might also let you take out 60 cards forever so we could later have an "old-timers" game using "retired" decks <g>

On Friday, 06-Apr-01 09:22:54 EDT, Tim said
That sounds good to me. How are we going to do points? 1 for every other person playing and 2 for the win or how about 1 for playing and 2 for a win.

On Friday, 06-Apr-01 08:08:25 EDT, Steve D. said
So I'm thinking we do like a six or eight week season (last night wouldn't count). I also think we should have a "show up ready to play by 8", get a booster rule.

On Tuesday, 03-Apr-01 09:56:31 EDT, Tim said
I think Joe can play tonight too. He has tomorrow off.
