Prelude

The Spire of Lies
Fools! I knew they would not succeed. Still, this could work to my advantage...

The Capitol
The darkness to the West fails my liege.
Good. Still, Ansalea seems weak. I shall take a trip there
To the frontier, Your Majesty
Yes, sort of rally the troops and look for a way to retire the old man.
Very well your majesty, I'll attend to it at once.
See that you do.

Summary of the Adventure

The company is faced with a difficult decision as Calidon still wields the flame. The halfling offered to take it, but Calidon did not trust him or his spells. No one seemed able to remove the curse, if curse it was, on the item and so Calidon continues to bear it. Harkonen cast a spell, but the result was cryptic.

The heroes of Ansalea debated leaving with a variety of destinations in mind, but finally determined they should await the King's arrival. In the interim, Androth completed the sale of his house and, with the alleged help of Malz and Darran moved his belongings to Darran's tower. Andivari rode out to make sure the King's way was clear, Harkonen wrote several reports, and Calidon applauded his men.

The audience with the king went well, with Darran made High Mayor of a new town, Androth appointed Marshall (of the northwest), Calidon appointed Sheriff, and Andivari named as Warden. Harkonen was given permission to build a new temple near the library and Darran and Malz were granted a charter to start their school of magic. Later they learned that Cedric had been named the new baron of the region and that he and Elsbeth would be wed the following day.

Several of the company were granted additional rewards. Each was given a stipend of fifty platinum. Calidon was given a garrison of fifty soldiers to command, Andi was entrusted with thirty woodsmen, and Darran was given a letter of credit for twenty-thousand gold. Although his position came with no troops, Androth was assured by his people that they would send several aides to help him do well in his new job.

Pendergrast approached the group and was quickly hired as seneschal for the new town. Arrangements were made for surveyors, workmen, supplies and more. The group set off towards the tower, blazing a clear trail so the road builders could follow them.
