The Shadow War

#28 The Notebook

The Hook

They have book now to follow the clues

Prelude

The party returns to Unity to follow up on what they learned from the note book.

Summary

The party has the Founders Ledger and turns it over to the government of Moravia before tracking down the "Thorns" mentioned in the ledger that are in Unity (Freeport)

THE FOUNDER’S LEDGER
The book is bound in human skin, cured to a sickly vellum. The ink is dark violet—Drow blood-ink—which never fades. Most of the text is written in a merchant’s shorthand, but the section titled "Project: Freeport" is chillingly clear.
I. The "Livestock" Records
Child Trafficking: The ledger lists "units" shipped. There are dates and prices paid to Eclavdra’s house in exchange for Drow "Slave-Silk" and "Silence-Poison."
The "Gruncle" Connection: There is a noted rivalry with the Veridian Order. Vane has underlined a passage: "The Baron wants to change the meat. We simply want to own it."
II. The "Thorn" Spies in Freeport
The following individuals are listed as active agents of the Thorns of the Old World currently residing in Freeport. They were left behind to destabilize the city once the party took over.
"The Baker" (Tobias): Owns a popular shop near the docks. He has been mixing "Lethargy-Spores" into the bread for the city guards, making them slow and prone to suggestion.
Mistress Kalla: A high-end seamstress. She has been sewing Drow Scrying-Thread into the garments of Freeport’s new council members, allowing Lady Vance to hear every private meeting.
The Dockmaster’s Clerk (Arin): He ensures that shipments of "Green-Fire" catalyst seeds are smuggled into the city's grain silos, waiting for the command to "bloom."

The party killed Tobias the baker and had the dockmasters clerk, Arin arrested. They then turned ovr the ledger and a rid on the seamstresses home prompted her to suicide.

Peeter identified the grain silo where the pods were hidden and another that was infesed with rats and with the help ofSilas the magister got both cleaed up without causing a public panic

The Spoils

4 8 oz cannisters
1) Dumtom - a poison extract that Tobias was adding to the guards daily bread ration that made them slow to act and more susceptible to suggestion.

2) Blurn - classed as a poison by the the spell detect poison, it is actually powdered bone from dwarves goblins and other non-humans sometimes used to coat the bottom of dough so it doesnt stick. Too much leaves a bitter taste and can cause vomiting.

3) Pepper - a rare seasoning coming from only 3 known plants growing in Farvoia.

4) Ashtur - This one is a red and white powder classed as poison that Tobias said was an old Elven word that meant either "Breath of Fire" Morning Sun" or "Morning Breath". It has a spicy hot taste and mixed with wine can render a person unconscious for a period of time based on how much is imbibed.
