Harbingers and Horrors

The Beast from the Deep

The Hook

Something tore up Judge Meadows, and took it's time doing it. Guess it wasn't a one time thing.

Prelude

Two weeks ago a ship named the Hadim out of Morocco wrecked on the rocks near Putnum North Carolina. Five days later something came out of the water and smashed its way into a farmhouse, killing most of the family.

A local printer named Percival Jones began to prepare some letters, but only two days later it appears to have attacked a local judge at his home, and began taking its time to slowly kill him, until his wife shot at “A great beast with eyes burning with the fires of hell.”

Jones sent out his letters with express riders.

Summary

A group of Harbingers arrived in town.

They learned an OtherKind beast called a Manticore was being shipped to a man who uses the name Mercicord for his personal collection.

The ship, the Hadim, was wrecked and the creature was freed.

Five days after it wrecked the Manticore attacked the family that had sent their slave, Long Tom, to loot it of the chains that had held it and a black chest with an eye in a star symbol which Andrew Higgins had sold to the Maltese shipping company.

Eduard Maltese, a being with OtherKind blood, works for Mercicord and shipped the chest to the Atkins tea house where Mercicord keeps a room he uses for meeting.

The girl who survived the attack was protected by a shining man who told her to tell her story to the hunters who would come.

The slave Long Tom resented his master Andrew Higgins II who failed to keep a promise to free him when Andrew Higgin I died. Jeffrey Higgins was due to arrive in a few days to take guardianship of Gretchen Higgins and take over the farm, and Long Tom hoped that the younger man would honor his grandfather's word.

The local Reverend is claiming to have driven the beast away from the area by more people showing up to his sermons, but his church is without the presence of the holy.

Someone carved the symbol of the fallen angel Mercureal into the corpse of 3 dead sailors and animated them to attack the players one at a time.

All of the dead sailors had red glowing eyes like the manticore.

The only sign of the Manticore since it killed the judge was when it came to shore once to be sewn up by another animated dead sailor.
