Prelude
The Harbingers have determined that someone has been controlling a Manticore as well as three dead sailors, one by one. Who that is remains to be seen.
Summary
While Matty tried to lure in the manticore with his washboard under the protective eyes of Zack and Amos, Ben discovered that Long Tom had gotten into an argument with the judge over the promise to free him after the Patriarch of the Higgins family died.
Long Tom took possession of the dead manticore and set it on Amos, using his familiarity with the area to get it close without being seen.
The Harbingers hacked the beast to death with Amos bloodying his tomahawk to injure Long Tom by wounding the beast, breaking his concentration.
Ben confronted Long Tom until he tried to run, while Matty saw someone who might have been Long Tom's teenaged son watching his father be killed without even being allowed to pray before his death.
A vellum letter written by the Fallen Mercureal directing him to seek a woman named Goodie Vergit in the town of Miclothean.
A man named Conquest arrived as they burned the corpses of Long Tom and the manticore who claimed the bones for Mercicord, who had ordered the creature originally. Hoping to gain at least some payment for bring back at least some of the creature.
