To Rescue a God

Prelude

In some distant plane of existence:

"They are coming for him."

"Good, get that wizard's brother to the keep.  Maybe we can kill them all and be done with it."

In Lylival:

"We are doomed, my ancient friend." The Loremaster sighs as he looks out the window of his high tower in the trees of the capital city.

"I am sorry." the voice of KierMan is heavy with sadness, "I have done everything in my power, and it is still not enough to stop this."

The Loremaster laughs a bit at this. "But it is not in your power to do anything. You know this." the Loremaster moves from the window, back into his study. "They have the Ring of the Elements, they will be at the Tower soon. You should join them there, you will be able to do more there."

"Bah, I don't feel that way. I should go back out and fight. I can boost morale some more, rally the warriors, plan better..." The Loremaster raises his hand to cut off KierMan.

"There is nothing you can do Red Archer." his voice is stern to drive his point home "Lylival may fall, but that is not a decision we can make. We will have to accept things as they come, you know that."  The Loremaster moves to a old and decayed looking bookshelf and pulls a tome that looks even worse from the shelf. "Take this to them, they will need it. It will not have all the answers, but it will have enough. The Tower has been activated, Balos is here, the Great Beast has been summoned." he hands the book to KierMan and puts a comforting hand on his shoulder. "You and the others must make them understand that their journey is just beginning, all of this will be nothing compared to what they are about to experience. They must be as ready as you can make them."

KierMan reluctantly nods in aggreement and turns to leave.

Adventure Summary

The party sailed to the island in which the Tower was on. Docking at the shore they opted to fly above the tree lines then walk through the forest. Arriving at the Tower, they marveled at it's splendor before entering. Morduke was the first to enter, upon stepping into the great hall all the torches lit up. No mattter what room they entered, it was lit up instantly. Toglard, confused as to their real purpose here(and bored due to the lack of killing), questioned Morduke as to why they were here. After a bit of talk the group believed that maybe if they were to find a library they would be able to find their answers. Preparing to search the entire tower Morduke realized that he knew exactly where the library was at, as a matter of fact he knew where everything in the Tower was. Moving to the library they were met by a manifistation of a old man who introduced himself as The Key and The Way, Keeper of the Tower. After a few questions the Keeper was able to tell the party where Gramlock was at, and where Penrath was at also. Offering to open a gateway to the outer plane, the party opted to wait until the next morning before leaving. As they insepcted the tower and looked around, Morduke sensed that there was someone in the upper floor of the tower. Moving up there, Morduke found Nadimus moving around in a giant arcane library. Figuring Toglard would like this, he summoned him. It didn't take Toglard long to see that Nadimus was working on some sort of powerful summoning spell. Talking with Nadimus, he explained that he was trying to summon the other rings of power to the Tower. When Toglard mentioned the Ring of Earth and the Ring of Fire Nadimus waved it off and said that he was trying to find the other Rings of the Tower. The Ring of the Planes, the Ring of Dreams, and the Ring of Time. Nadimus also offered advice about their mission to save Gramlock. Hit'em hard, Hit'em fast and be True to yourselves.

The next morning the party prepared by casting spells and activating powers of their items. During all this they barely noticed Nadimus watching from across the room, smiling and nodding at their actions. Walking through the gateway the group found themselves in a odd looking landscape but could see a structure in front of them. Not wasting time, Toglard wished to be in the same room as his brother, and like magik the enter group was in Penraths cell. Penrath laid there in a deep sleep, and there was no way out of this room. Using his faith Morduke wished that the group was in the same room as Gramlock. The group ended up just outside the great room where Gramlock was being kept. In front of the door was Cordova, carrying the Great Sword of Gramlock. He was told to move away or die, and he refused. Ulrich charged, his sword howling at the sensation of battle against a creature of Chaos, Striking Cordova the sword let out a yell of happiness as it burst into flames striking Cordova hard. Farrol was next, slamming his staff into Cordova's body. Cordova just laughed and told them, "You can't hurt me". Both Mordule and Toglard came to the conclusion that only Morduke would be able to hurt(kill) Cordova, and soon Morduke was toe to toe with Cordova. Morduke and Cordova began to exchange blows, hard and fast.

Malik opted to head through the door now that Cordova was occupied with Morduke, but as he approached the door hit was hit twice by a black sword with green glowing runes. Soon the man in black stepped out from the stone of the wall. With the appearance of the man in black and the black sword, Ulrich's sword howled loudly and took complete control over Ulrich and began to attack the man in black. As the swords clashed, sparks began to fly. Olown didn't take long to get into the fight as he rushed the man in black trying to bring him down. Unable to bring the man in black down he did allow Ulrich to get an extra swing in on him. However, their efforst were soon thwarted as a strange blast of energy came from the armor of the man in black, throwing Olown clear of him. Olown responded with a bead of containment which actaully worked. With the man in black gone, Ulrich slowly began to gain control again, but not before the sword put itself at Olown's throat warning never to interfer with a fight against the man in black again. Morduke with the help of Farrol made short work of Cordova as he removed both his good hand and head.

While all this was happening Toglard D. Doored to the location where they sensed Gramlock. Arriving there he found himself in a room with nothing but a pillar in the center of it. On the pillar was a silk cushion and on that cushion was a pearl about the size of a basketball. Sensing that Gramlock was in the pearl, Toglard wasted no time and dove into the pearl. He found himself in a void but could not see Gramlock, he soon heard something in the back of his head telling him to move forward. Following this strange voice, he soon found himself in the presence of Gramlock, who was being held in the void. A strange creature appeared, The Void, but Toglard was True to himself. He began to use the truth that the Void was nothing and therefore could not hurt him. The Void watched and listened for a bit before attacking, however its attacks were useless as Toglard was un-affected by the powers of the Void and caused it to vanish. Calling for the jailor of Gramlock Toglard was soon facing Xavier. Toglard made a simple deal, the staff for the god, and Xavier wavered, thinking about it he accepted the staff. As Toglard threw the staff at Xavier, he also gave him two Meteor Swarms for good measure, catching him completely off guard Toglard killed Xavier. With Xavier dead and Gramlock released from the void, Morduke appeared with the Great Sword of Gramlock. But it was clear no normal or magikal means would help them escape this prison. Looking within Morduke called upon the faith of his very soul as was able to cut a hole in the void that allowed them to leave.

With Gramlock freed, the group returned to the Tower to plan their next moves.
