Aredel

Undead agogo

Prelude

Adventure Summary

Defeating the beast, the group, led now by the capable Gusmer, made their way into a subterranean lair. They traveled down rough-hewn passages led only by the ranger's keen instinct and his insatiable drive to find that which he had decided to seek. Even as a child, Gusmer had possessed a knack for hide and seek, almost a sixth sense for finding that which he sought. No matter the reason, he had never failed and he would not fail this day.

He pressed on, ignoring Toglard's whining about his sore feet and aching stomach and lack of buttered peas. He could recall a time when he had walked barefoot across a sun-scorched desert on a strange plain where sand was sometimes blasted into rough glass by the intense heat and dryness. He couldn't help but marvel at the difference between his experience and the wizards and between the wizard's reputation and his reality. In the end, it was simple, Toglard was a cumbersome but effective weapon. Taking him places was a tremendous burden, even on Gusmer, but his arrival was useful. Like any properly directed weapon, Toglard could be lethal in the right situation.

Even as he pondered the wizard's lamentable short-comings, Gusmer sensed trouble ahead and signaled a halt. He snuck up and saw that it was only a roomful of undead. He contemplated asking for help, then remembered the wizard's whining and set to work himself. By the time the others joined, he'd already killed quite a few. Their assistance only sped his eventual victory. While the others scraped and searched around the room for baubles and trinkets he remained focused on the mission.

It was no surprise to him then, when they were attacked again by more powerful undead. The result was the same and his victory was complete. A third room of undead was slso no match for him. He finally found himself in the room where he sensed the staff lay but something clouded his vision and he could not see it. His suspicion was that it was concealed by dark magic, offered up as bait for some incredible trap. Steeling his nerve and bracing for action, he watched as the others began making themslelves at home.
