The Wasteland

Prelude

In Astol

"My King, reports from the field. We have moved in more on the Elves. While their priest have given us a problem we are still advancing. They had started to fall back."

"Excellent. Soon they were be but a memory and this will be land of Man as it should be."

In Kryll

"Prince Agomar, I'm sorry to say that your fathers sickness has returned. And there's not much we can do about."

"What are you talking about priest?! My father sickness should never return, he was healed by the power of Gramlock! He was healed by Morduke himself! What you speak of is untrue!" Prince Agomar spits angerly back at the priest of Tyryl. "I suggest you try again before I use your guts to hang potted plants from."

"My Lord, please control yourself!" Y'lyn, Agomar's advisor pipes up. Her voice soft but firm "Those are words un-befitting a prince!"

"Yes, you are right, Y'lyn. I am just upset. I apologize good priest but you must have some news for more."

"I am sorry Sire, we communed with Tyryl last night and he has told us that the king sickness is beyond the powers of the Lords.Gramlock had failed."

"Get me the highest ranking priest of Gramlock within our borders, and get me the leader of their faith...NOW!"

"Yes, my Prince."

In some artic place:

"You better have some news for me wizard. Our patience is growing thin!"

The figure in the dark hooded cloak smiles to himself. The woman could not see the smile, he face was hidden in the shadows of the hood.

"Relax my good Baroness. Everything is progressing as planned. You can tell your Queen that we are close to finding the treasure she so seeks." The wizard walks forward as the Baroness follows.

"We have no room for mistakes Dark One. We would handle this ourselves and we actaully would prefer to however..."

"However, the use of magic is needed." The Dark One finishes her sentence. "So patience growing thin or not you have no choice but to follow my time line..good or bad. But look for yourself Baroness, we are proceding well." the wizard motions his arm to show her, and the Baroness looks at the cave below her. She can see these huge, almost 18' tall giant like creatures hammer through the rock with little effort.

"Amazing."

"Yes, our newest creations. We are quite proud of them, as are our buyers. We have some new specimens just in we are about to work on, if you are interested. Now, tell your Queen that everything is in order."

"Yes, I am and yes I will."

Adventure Summary

With Toglard joining the party, Ulrich's courage was somewhat restored and the group decided to press on, despite the difficulties they'd had the previous few days. A journey into the mountain's heart was deemed in order and after a few minutes preparation, they made their way in. One important thing they discovered was that they couldn't use their most powerful magics while in the waste. Worse still, no elementals would answer their call, so Morduke's power was somewhat reduced.

Entering the caves they quickly came to an encounter with a huge beast which appeared to be the ceiling (and perhaps floor) of the chamber they were in. Strange pseudopods reached down from the ceiling to grab them. Luckily a wall of fire and a few other spells held it at bay long enough for us to defeat it. We left that area and came to a room with a few small geysers in it. At first we feared it was still part of the beast, but it proved not to be so. Two of the undead elves emerged from the geysers and a host of divine magic from Shane Lee and Morduke left the creatures dead rather than undead.

Our last encounter before resting for the night proved by far the most strenuous. Eight demons attacked us, but it was even worse for they were also undead. The battle was very difficult as the demons were difficult to hit with shaft, sword, staff or spell. The battle raged for quite a time and many spells were loosed upon the horde. The demons were not only difficult to hurt but they were strong and fierce too, with nasty sharp teeth and wickedly curved claws. They rained destruction on the party, leaving several of our party grievously wounded before a few were disintegrated, and the rest were beaten down with mighty spells and killing blows. Malik's arrows also proved telling in this room, killing several demons.

At they end of the battle we discovered three clear, but sealed coffins. One contained a human warrior, an elven warrior and a dwarven priest. On opening the coffins the bodies turned to dust, however, their magik items had stayed intact.
