Undead Attack

Prelude

The Great Wasteland

"RISE! RISE! RISE! RISE! RISE O GREAT KING TYMORA, RISE FROM YOUR SLEEP!" The sky starts to grow dark as the staff made of bone begins to glow pale. "I command that the undead may rise once again and the curse of the Great Wastland once again can spread freely!"

Border of Minneva and Pallegan

"Alight Baron Thralten, you have access to this entire area of land for your hunts. Take what you want but do not be over zealous about it. And remember our little agreement."

"Very well General."

Adventure Summary

Checking back with his men in Pallegan, Malik the Grey learned of attacks from strange creatures on the northern borders of the Kingdom. Quickly securing the help of the party, Malik and co. sailed for Pallegan sans Toglard who needed to finish research and duties that a land owner must do.

Arriving in the village Lt. Dan explained that strange mist-like creatures were making raids on the village. They would kill their pray and then perfectly harvest their brians, lungs and hearts. Without wasting any time, Morduke set to call upon the power of Gramlock, asking to restore those who had fallen to these undead monsters. Gramlock responded by commanding Morduke to put the people in their beds and let them sleep then night, in the morning they would walk again. While Morduke set to his task, Malik and co along with the the Grey Riders made plans for watching for and killing these creatures.

As night set in, the group looked towards the Wasteland and waited from the roof tops of the village. Around 1am they noticed a strange mist start to roll in from the north, making it hard for those on the ground to see. As they watched Farrol gave a yeah as he noticed strange movements in four different parts of the mist. With the groups attention now focused they could see four groups of four of these mist creatures about 100 yards out. Not wasting time Morduke let loose with his divine might casting a Sunbust, Olown used the powers of the Staff to call forth another Sunburst and Malik let arrows fly. For the first time the group was in shocked and disbelief, their normal method of attack normally left their foes dead or destroyed within mere moments of the battle starting, but these mist creatures just kept moving in. It took two more volleys of spells and arrows and even Farrol going toe to toe with a few of the creatures but they were finally defeated.

The group gathered themselves in a bit of awe of the power of these undead creatures. While they really had little encounters the undead in their travels together or alone, they had never seen them this powerful or quick. With these creatures attacking more and more the group decided to head into the Wastleland and go to the source of the problem, the ancient City of the Dead at the Mountain of Death.

Preparing to move in with the Ship of Earth and Sea, the Ship stopped at the border. As Olown inquired why the ship had stopped, both Grandar and Tyrell explained that the Wasteland is a dead place. It is nothing more then a mass of negative enegry. Not only was it dead on the Prime Material plane it wa dead on all Planes, including the Elemental planes. No Elemental goes into the Wasteland, no spell will call them, not even the Rings would bring them there, including Morduke's. It was even rumored that magik would not work within the Wasteland. Leaving the Ship and the two elementals behind, the party used Shane's ability to fold space and headed towards the mountain.

The group was shocked as it felt like they were walking into a wall, the fold did not go as far as Shane had hoped, like something was blocking it. Both Shane and Morduke felt their abilities to cast some of their most powerful spells drain from their body. Morduke also felt the link between Gramlock and the sword fade just a bit. Notcing they were five miles from the base of the mountain, the group began to walk. As they approached the mountain they sould see that the mountain had a five mile radius to it, and it was surrounded by a mile wide valley. The moved around the mountain to an entrance they new off thanks to the old map Morduke still had from the Dark Hand encounter. As they approach Olown moved up to the edge of the cliff to see what was happening. He could see a army of over 2,000 elven zombies gathering at the base of the mountain on the valley floor. Moving back to the party and explaining what he saw the ground began to shake and suddenly it exploded around them.

Luck was not with Morduke this time, as everyone leaped to safety Morduke lost his footing and fell into the cavern created by the explosion. As the dust settled the party could now see a gaint skeletal bird like creature and they set to work. As the fought with the creature they were once again ine awe of the creatures power and strength. They also noticed that their edged weapons had half the effect on them as normal, and even then it seemed that some of the weapons enchanments where not strong enough to effect the creature fully. Morduke and Olown learned quickly that it had a resitence to magic, some spells would not get past the resistance. The battle was looking bad for the group as the bird show more of it's power by fire shooting from the rubys in its eye sockets, dealing some serious damage to the group. It followed that up with a snoic blast as it screamed loudly at the party. However, luck was with the group and they were able to defeat it. As they examined it's lair they found a passage that lead toward the mountain underground. Opting for that, they began to move.
