Malik's Musings

10/21/2003
It has been a year and this band I travel with is charged with Saving the world from the all evil Balos and his cronies. This is a tall order and one I am not sure this group is suited to handle. More often I find myself agreeing with the Champion of Law, Lord Ulrich, not for his philisophical views but for his common sense.
Our most recent encounter sums it up. Having travelled to the Vault of Powerful Magic, it seems we were duped into starting the Conjunction. While both Lord Ulrich and I preached patience before activating the device..some in the group were over eager. If Balos's weakness is arrogrance..our certainly is lack of unity and rash action. With Val-Jean in attendance and urging us on (which I took as a HUGE warning). Both the "Balanced" Gusmer, who was insistant that this was the right thing to do, with no supporting evidence...in fact he could only answer the question of why should we do it? With "Why shouldn't we?". I am both surprised and perplexed that a follower of the balance would want us to act so impulsively. Worse yet, the new Blood Guard Loki, in an utter act of Chaos, stole the final activation rod from me and activated the conjunction. Later he shared with the group (lucky I let him live), that he had other knowledge and could potentially even undo the act. Why don't we ever trust or listen to each other? Loki, could have simply asked us to trust him....yet he chose to act....
Without deliberate thought and action, this group is doomed to fail and be manipulated by Balos at ever turn. We quite simply spent more time looking in Rivers, looking at Rocks, checking doors for traps, than we did in comptemplating whether we should activate the Scales of the Universe.

We have recovered the bone staff. The amazons were not pleased to have lost contact with their spies. However, our group was in no mood for a fight. Apparently one of the Baroness' of the Amazons did not want a fight either, claiming that her loyal forces did not agree with the goals of domination from the amazon kingdom. She gave us some gems which appear to let us discriminate from her supporters so that we don't kill them.
On the way back, we found some of my loyal troops, adrift, their ship having been attacked on the open seas, despite an amazon peace treaty. We rescued them and as usual Toglard and Shane transported us (gods know where) to the Amazon fleet...and we are beginning our take over and destruction of it.
I don't trust the bitches..even the baroness. Their word means nothing, they are ruthless and cunning. Perhaps the baroness is just using us to eliminate her competition. I say we kill them all, destroy all their ships(except one) and leave them to their accursed island....maybe I am being to suspicious, but I cannot think of a better way to exact revenge on this group of heroes....

My fears are nearly confirmed....we are missing the forest because of the trees. My visions continue, but what will the group make of it? Will they concur that our path is flawed...we fight too quick and think too little, much as a green recruit. Even I myself feel frustrated because our true enemy is elsewhere, elusive. I can feel the disturbance, but without the combined powers of Morduke, Toglard and the Tower, we may have no hope of finding our true enemy: Balos. Our spells are not of sufficient power to penetrate the shroud of the dark side...yet we continue to be manipulated. We need to ask the question are we epic heros or common soldiers? Should we be fighting orges with the specter of large evil looming over the world....I fear this evil is of equal par to the gods...it is dark times indeed.

We have vanquished a powerful foe, Lord Bane, nearly as powerful as a god. I wonder whether the Powers that BE have taken notice of our repetitive wishing and are using use to unforseen ends. We seem unable to keep ourselves on Aredel, where all signs indicate is the point of conflict. The loss of O, despite his faults, is felt keenly by the group. Our rushing in may cost us even more this time...may the strength and luck of Gramlock protect us. I will counsel the group that we need to stay on Aredel, for I find several things troubling: the ease of which Mineava gave up their slave raiding, the slaver party from across the sea in my country, the banishing of Gramlock in Kryll..seemingly undone for now. I fear there are outside powers manipulating things and us...how much better is it for our enemies if we are on another plane? I think Toglard realizes this, but get frustrated with the lack of a clear enemies...he should try fighting orges in the mountains sometime...

We rush in where gods fear to tread. I fear that in our enthusiasm to right the wrong, or seek the Truth, that we may meet an untimely demise. One of our company has fallen, O, in a blaze of glory. We know not even where or who we fight for, brought here by Toglard's powerful magicks. Some feel we are not even on Aredel and wonder what cruel twist of fate this is--perhaps we are needed more back home, as Kingdom scheme, evil festers and builds, while our group of heros (vainly?) tries to save the world....

2/10/2003
I fear the greatest test lies ahead. The forces of evil have been strengthend, joined by some power. The wasteland, may hold the key. Our neighbor Kryll is in dire need of help, as the King has died (assassinated?), and the new King has decreed that Gramlock shall not be worshipped and the temples razed. The whole thing smells of evil, Daesious?, and most certainly a trap. The new King certainly must know that Morduke, Ulrich and the rest of the merry band will come running. More troubling is that the same is happening all over Aredel...I wonder if the Amazon peace will hold? If a new enemy will reveal itself? Will the undead in the waste continue to spread like a cancer?
We live in troubled times....
Malik the Grey, Servant of Gramlock

1/8/2003 Part II
We fought and barely defeated a lich...however..."Its not the same Lich!!" (as in Toglard's Vision). Great there are at least two...I feel we may need some Divine help (Gramlock are you listening?) on this next one..

1/8/2003 Part I
We continue to battle undead, in hopes of finding the ring of fire. Personally, I would like to see more of the undead put to rest, and the power of the Wasteland diminished. We have now ascertained that the Wasteland is expanding (slowly, but measurably). This is most troubling for our country. We know where the Ring is guarded by a lich..

The evil and death that permates the Wasteland no longer stays there. Several villlages in my homeland have been ravaged by strange beasts who come in the night. Our group travels via O magical boat (must be such a sight to Pallagans!) to help combat this menace. Toglard is absent tending to those things which are known only to Arch-Mages, yet the rest of our band, Ulrich, Farrell, the tempermental O, Shane and Mighty(tm) Morduke.
These creatures prove very difficult even for us to kill, yet it doesn't sway our determination to proceed deep into the Wasteland. Fighting our way deeper, we come to a fantasitic mountain, where thousands of these creatures (some kind of undead elves!) gather. We attempt to circle the mountain, following our less than detailed map and are beset by creatures of nightmare. Animated bones of a Phoenix no less and other foul creatures. Once again, this group proves its up to the task....

10/29 - 11/6
This intense driven band, sworn to the power of Gramlock, has obliterated many followers and temples of Daisious. The pure power this group posesses is staggering, between the spells of Toglard, the combat prowess of Farrell and Ulrich. Fortunately for the world, they (mostly) seem to favor the cause of good. Certainly, Evil will take note...
The razing of the last temple certainly brought some divine attention. We were transported and fought a valiant battle (at least those of us not awestruck) and actually defeated Daisious and his minions and freed Gramlock himself.

10/24/2002
I have taken up company with a more than capable band of, what could only be described as adventurers. Lead by Duke General Ulrich and backed by the power of Tolgard, they intend on stopping the amazon aggression. While the amazons are a formidable force, they seem to possess sufficent power to accomplish that mission. I am concerned with two things, one discipline in the group is much looser than a standard military unit and several members of the group, for reasons I cannot fathom, seem intent on placing themselves in harm's way for no reason. I will take it upon myself to explain that it is much better to kill your enemy from far away, rather than rashly charging, like some too eager young recruit, into the mouth of danger...
