Harbingers and Horrors

Background

The setting

And the Lord said, let there be light. Then what had lived in the darkness was revealed, and the Lord's servants were set to guard against them.

The place is in the colonies in the new world, the time is after the last French and Indian war but several years before the Revolutionary one.

You are a Harbinger, someone blessed with the Talent to sense the Otherkind, beings and entities who are not part of the Lord's creation. Both their presence and their influence.

Some of the Outerkind are indifferent to humanity, if left alone, other even try to help people in their own way.

Most however are simply predators, or actively seek to do harm.

Then are also those who are Accursed by the Fallen, or empowered by them. Since the Fallen are of the Lord's creation, they can't be sensed by all Harbingers, only those who have been touched by the Divine.

Why keep your work a secret?

The Otherkind have a stronger presence in Creation when people believe in them, or even have knowledge of them. The Brothers Grimm spread knowledge of Fairies, which was opposed by many, by writing down stories of them, but doing so weakened them as people began to dismiss them as mere stories.

For the most part, it is agreed that to destroy Otherkind and conceal their existence is best, but then again you don't see Fairies around anymore.

The Thirteen Colonies

Canada
North of New England is Quebec which has recently been handed over to Britain and British Canada. Quebec is very Catholic and the stronghold of the Order of St George in North America. Harbingers from other groups and independents are unwelcome.
New England (New Hampshire, Massachusetts, Rhone Island, Connecticut)
This area was one the center of a civilization called Nod which worshiped Otherkind entities. Caine was said to have come here after being cast out and to had children with Otherkind. Most Harbingers have agreed to destroy all evidence of the existence of Nod, but Freemasons and Arborists seek to collect what ever they can. Some ruins are even underwater suggesting that the seas were lower during Nod's heyday.
Iroquois Confederacy
Inland of New England and the Middle Colonies are a large, organized and nation of natives. The White Lodge deals with anything happening here.
Middle Colonies (New York, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Delaware)
Mainly old Dutch colonies now taken over by England. There are tales of the Leeds devil in the New Jersey pine barrens.
Ohio Country
Recently acquired from the French, while there are many unoccupied areas in the colonies, this is an outright frontier. There has also been a lot of blood spilled here, which always stirs up some of the worst of the Otherkind.
Southern Colonies (Maryland, Virginia, North Carolina, South Carolina, Georgia)
The Heart of slave country. Virginia is one of the oldest colonies, while Maryland was set aside for Catholics. Many people among the slave have ways to call upon and manipulate Otherkind or are willing to make deals with the Fallen in revenge for their enslavement.
Further south (Florida and the isles)
Britain acquired East and West Florida, and holds many of the islands which are even worst places to be a slave.
