- Zachariah (Zach or Ze-man) McConnal - Steve
- Zach is a half-breed. His father was a Scots trapper and his mother was the only daughter of a Chippewa medicine man. He is quiet and prone to think before he acts. When he does act, it is decisive. He is stronger than he looks and he doesn't miss much. He carries a bow and an axe, but no firearms.
- Benjamin Webster - Mick
- A tall white gentleman. Well dressed and good looking. He rides a horse and carries a sabre.
- Amos - Tim
- A distinguished gentleman with a decidedly military bearing. His clothing, gear, and grooming are all impeccable.
- Matias Beauregard - Jim
- A voyajeur who escaped south to Lousiana during the French and Indian War. Now he's a backwoods guide and a master of cajuneering and the washboard.
