Prelude

At Long Lake
silence

At the Manor
I'm very sorry to hear that
No you're not. You don't like me and you never have.
True, but you brought some good here and I respect that.
Feh! You lawless hooligans will pay one day!

Somewhere
And they died?
Yes.
Didn't you go in to at least loot their bodies
And face whatever killed them?! Not me.
I see, now, where was this again?

Summary of the Adventure

The company marched back to the village, barely pausing to enjoy the beautiful spring weather. As the village hove into view, they were surprised to see many of their construction projects were complete. The massive temple was finished and, even from the distance, they could make out the brightly colored tents of the festival surrounding it.

They arrived in town and were greeted warmly by two helpful guards. The guards offered to help with luggage and escorted the various members of the company to their destinations.

Androth and Malz went to Androth's home where they were greeted by the sight of a freshly completed stone fence around the estate and a nearby construction project. They approached the gate and as Malz walked through, the guards rang the bell, much to Androth's annoyance. Androth ignored the gate and stepped over the low fence.

Inside, more surprises awaited them as Janus and Celia greeted them and offered to help with their bags and prepare lunch. When questioned, they explained that they had been appointed as caretakers by Sherrif Cedric. Malz accepted their generosity, but Androth declined.

As they left to seek out Cedric, they bumped into the Marquis Kalthakyus, who demanded to know who they were and then tried to buy the place from Androth. Ignoring his offer, they left.

Harkonen found things very different at the temple - the main room had been painted with a bright sunset and the grounds looked more like a garden than a law office. There were also some irregularities in the record-keeping practices and it was clear that Elsbeth had taken control of the temple in his absence.

Daran and Calidon had things a little easier. Daran's home had been locked up and opened only twice a month for cleaning. His new neighbor, a tanner, gave him the key. Calidon's place had been used for tours and he was mistaken for a tourist when he first arrived, but Cedric set things straight pretty quickly once he knew they had returned.

During a brief tour conducted by Lady Elsbeth, Malz and Daran were shown the many good works of the temple. It seemed that in Harkonen's absence, Lady Elsbeth had made many changes to the temple heirarchy and the tax structure, most of which seemed to have had a positive effect.

The entire company was invited to a dinner thrown by the Baron. The baron was not in attendance, but most of the other noteworthy villagers were there, including the Marquis and his lady. When Androth attempted to introduce himself, the Marquis criticized his manners and then both he and the lady ignored him.

Towards the end of the evening, Pendergrast announced that Cedric and Elsbeth were to be married. Most of those assembled applauded the happy couple, but Harkonen was not amused.

He returned to the temple almost immediately and began laying out plans for Elsbeth's dismissal from the temple and the order. He also ordered that the orphanage she had built be razed and the orphans moved into the temple.

In the morning, Calidon, Daran and Malz met with Pendergrast. Calidon asked permission and then advice on securing troops for his new stronghold, Malz spoke briefly of the library he and Daran had found, then asked for permission to settle it in the name of Ansalea, which was granted.

Finally Daran asked after the Marquis and his purpose in town. Pendergrast explained that with the Baron having no heirs and failing health, the Marquis hoped to take possession of the land. Daran suggested that Cedric be made Baron and the group agreed to work towards that goal.
