  Adventure Summary

After a brief consultation with the rest of the group, Kincaid asks the Marshall a few questions about the Skillers. Turns out some people died out there during his revivals, which featured snake-handling and fire-walking among other things. The Marshall and Sheriff put together a posse and ran Skiller and his boys out of town. The Skiller clan, he tells them, was a bunch of mishapen, ugly cusses.

The group rides out to the Skiller place and it's nothing like they expect. Everyone is very polite, no one even makes them turn in their guns (although they are asked to unload them), and they're treated like welcome guests. The congregation, they notice, is made of mostly above average looking people. Even a couple of people whom they recognize, including Aubrey James, are better looking than they remember.

The revival starts promptly at 7:00 with a choral performance, followed by the sermon itself. Everyone except Crowe drawn into the sermon and, while they don't remember details, they do remember it as a pleasant, almost euphoric feeling. Crowe is initially unswayed, but his attempt to sense magic backfires and leaves him as mesmerized as the others. He has a dim memory of the reverend being a mishapen ugly runt, but it seems almost like a dream.

While the others bed down for the night, Kincaid wanders the valley and eventually meets up with Hank and the two of them are able to leave the valley unmolested. Hank was looking for Diving Hawk, Aubrey's friend, but he had no luck.

Crowe, also feeling uneasy, wakes up and investigates the altar more closely. He discovers that it seems to have some sort of reality warping hex on it. After poking at it with a stick and seeing that the shape isn't really the one that he sees, he holds up a candle and discovers the shadow is that of an inverted cross. He alerts Urek and Hector and the trio begins loading for bear.

Meanwhile Hank entered the house only to be confronted almost immediately by the Gaunt Man. After a very brief discussion, it was agreed that him, Kincaid, and all their friends should leave quickly and quietly and not come back.

The posse rode back to town with only one hound baying behind them. While the others bedded down, Kincaid woke the Marshall, who listened to the story and then decided to form a posse and head out at 11:30 the next day.
