The posse heads South, destined for Willoughby and then the Poison Pass. They check around at Willoughby and find out the Gaunt Man came through with a hunch back a few times, once a few months back and again a few days earlier. Rumor has it he has some kind of in with the Hakawi tribe.
Kincaid talks with a couple of visiting Hakawi and discovers that the Gaunt Man has, in fact, shown up on their lands. They explain quietly that he's taken the chief's daughter hostage and has seized control of Hakawi Falls, a natural waterfall which is reputed to have healing powers. He's also corrupted the tribe's medicine man.
The following day, the posse follows the obvious tracks of the Hakawi warriors into the pass and straight into Hakawi territory where they are greeted by a war party. When Kincaid announces they've come to rescue the chief's daughter they are escorted to the chief's tepee under heavy guard. Once they're alone the chief chastises Kincaid for his big mouth and has the whole group staked out in a spot where they can easily escape and get to the falls.
When darkness comes, they do just that, sneaking past the normally vigilant Hakawi warriors and making their way to the base of the falls.
