  Prelude

Washington, DC
Anything more on those weapons?
They've recovered them. Testing commences tomorrow.
Good. What happened?
We're not sure yet sir.
Well, find out!

Somewhere between Cheyenne and Debtmarsh
Now what?
I don't know; I never figured on tangling with a Marshall.
Marshall nothing Flynn, did you see that greaser?
Yeah, he don't scare me though - I can guess what he's gonna do. Now Urek and Kincaid, that's somethin' else.

  Adventure Summary

The posse rides back to O'Reilly's, operating under the assumption that someone at O'Reilly's must know what's going on. They are again greeted warmly, but the place is nearly deserted. Paddy has his men out searching for the scum who tried to rob him the night before.

As the men filter back, O'Reilly invites them in for dinner. Dinner goes without any problems and Shiwana decides to ride on to Debt Marsh with the idea of checking into things there. In fact, he rides just north of the O'Reilly place and keeps an eye out - he's convinced he'll spot the scientists.

The rest of the posse accepts O'Reilly's invitation and are soon bedding down in the bunk house. Crowe excuses himself and, under cover of darkness, prepares to do a little spying of his own. Shiwana arrives, having seen a blue flare go off in the distance to the North. Crowe wakes the rest of the posse and they quietly prepare to leave.

Urek is interrupted by Boyle) who asks that they not shoot his brother unless they have to. He gives them directions to Hunters, a cabin on the north side of the O'Reilly property. He believes his brother and a couple of the other hands are there. The posse undertakes the journey.

Arriving at Hunters, they observe two black steam wagons parked just outside. A moment later, two men emerge from the cabin and begin walking towards the wagons. Crowe and Hank begin moving down using magic, while Shiwana sneaks closer as well. As the two reach the first wagon, Shiwana opens fire. The two duck for cover as Urek shouts "US Marshall, throw down your guns!"

The men decide to fight, but they are badly outnumbered. Luckily for them, Hector is at extreme range and can't open up with his gatling pistols. The remainder of the posse does a good job fillin' 'em full o' lead though and the pair reluctantly surrenders. The group inside the house looks ready to make a stand though, so the posse isn't out of the woods yet.

Crowe tosses a stick of dynamite onto the front porch. The men inside, recognizing their peril, decide to surrender and come running out of the house. One chooses to resist and gets beat up. The rest, seeing this example, decide to comply.

The story gets strange from there. Hank talks to the pair of drivers who turn out to be the notorious Clanahan brothers, a pair of reputed outlaws. As always, the Clanahan brothers have a story - they were hired by Smith & Robards to pay the ransom and escort the scientists home. The five scientists likewise insist they were kidnapped. The three cowhands insist they were hired just to take care of the scientists until someone could pick them up.

Unable and unwilling to untangle the stories, Urek decides to take them all into custody and deliver them to the Fort. When he does, he discovers the weapons they've created don't work. It appears that Smith & Robards were selling non-functional secret weapons. The Colonel lets the Clanahans go, but holds over the scientists and the cowhands for further investigation.
