How is it that fools such as these continue to elude us?
I am sorry, my dark master, but it is so hard to think like a fool; I am sure we will find them soon.
Good. Soon is good.

  Adventure Summary

Virgil and Shiwana made their way up to the bridge carefully. The entire thing had been destroyed, but the tracks remained, relatively unharmed. They poked around a bit and realized that the water was not high, as the sheriff had implied, but was actually low. Shiwana suggested that perhaps there was a dam upstream and the two investigated. Riding through a blighted landscape of recently felled trees, they soon came to a large dam.

Dismounting to ride closer, they discovered the dam had actually been built by giant beavers. Though not afraid of a little beaver, the big ones were cause for alarm. They decided to ride back to town and ask the sheriff what was going on. They also planned to buy some dynamite.

Hurrying back, they encountered Kincaid, Hector and Crowe on their way to the bridge. The two groups compared notes and came to the conclusion that the sheriff had much to answer for. All five rode back to town, still intent on getting some dynamite.

They stopped off at the General Store to speak with the sheriff. He was evasive, though it was clear he knew more than he let on. When it became clear he had no intention of sharing that knowledge, Virgil, Kincaid, and Hector headed to the saloon, while Shiwana prepared to ride to the next town with a telegraph. Crowe grilled the telegraph operator for news.

Terwilliger strode down the street, looking dapper in a blue suit and bowler. He exuded an aura of cold efficiency as he walked past the posse and into the shop. While the others tended to various things, Crowe listened in to the conversation and discovered that the sheriff was in cahoots with Terwilliger to hide something. When Terwilliger left, Crowe put a gun to the sheriff's head and got a few answers.

At the saloon, Terwilliger offered to buy Fred a drink. His plan was ruined when Kincaid spotted him slipping in a micky of some sort and broke the glass with his own. As they discussed Kincaid's manners, Shiwana and Crowe entered. Crowe shone a lantern on Terwilliger to prevent him from Shadow Walking, while Shiwana just opened fire with his bolt-action rifle.

A brief fight ensued during which the posse was greatly hampered by Hector's inability to use his guns without hitting his companions. Terwilliger was set alight by Crowe's thrown lantern and suddenly changed from a dapper-looking man to a ten and a half foot tall satyr with blue skin and a powerful build. The satyr struck hard with his cloven hooves, but he was no match for the posse.

With both arms bloodied and crippled, he dove through the front window of the saloon. Even as he struggled to roll to his feet, the group continued to shoot at him. Finally, just when it seemed like he might escape, Crowe's ridicule made him berserk and he turned to attack. Even before he completed his turn, his legs had been shot out from under him. His body began melting and eventually disovled into nothing.

(Crowe has just grabbed the sheriff's badge from his shirt)
Crowe: I'm taking the law into my own hands all official-like.

Dave: I know, let's paint a stick of dynamite like a giant log.

Tom (talking about the proposed log): Bite this you toothy bastard!

Dave: Ok, Tom, you be a traveling dentist.

Dave (as he rides towards the rest of the posse): You Kincaid?

Joe: Cool, this character can read. What does it say?

Joe: Bang!
Joe: You Terwilliger?
Joe: Damn! Wrong order.

Joe (Pretending to address the sheriff): You didn't say "He turns into a big blue demon!"Blam-Blam-Blam!
