Summary
The group returns to Razorpine with an axe to grind. They are met by the sheriff and they explain they are back and the Jaxar send his men along with them to kill them and steal their treasure while they were wounded. Instead, they kill the two men and are now back to discuss Jaxar’s duplicity. They decide to got celebrate at the Dirty Rat and the guard heads off to the Mayor’s house to explain what he’s heard.
That night, they get together and split the treasure. With no witnesses to see what they’ve collected, the party doesn’t work too hard to be honest or fair. He suggests additional business and shows them another scrap of map and wonders if they’d be willing to go to this spot, which he believes will be richer than the first one. They discuss the unpleasantness of the first mission, but he assures them he had nothing to do with it and never asked his men to kill them. The party appears to believe him and they head off to the Dirty Rat.
There, they meet up with Falcon, the slaver who had Valric’s friends. He claims they did something unnatural and so he sold them to another slaver named Festus who he believes was on his way to Alewick. They discuss Jaxar and his likely plans and past dishonesty. The group becomes convinced that Jaxar knew everything and tried to have them killed.
After some discussion, they make the decision to kill him. As they leave the tavern to head across town, it seems that others are aware of their plan. They are attacked by Jaxar and his men, but it doesn’t last long as the party dominates the fight in no small part due to Valric’s aggression. They kill most of them with only Elben being seriously hurt. Jaxar lays dying when suddenly an imp appears, thanks them for killing him, and sucks the last bit of life from him before departing.
They loot his house for valuables but leave most of the furnishings. They then stay to see a new mayor installed before they decide to head to Alewick and look for Fergus and the slaves he may still have in his possession.
