Summary of the Adventure

While the more learned members of the company gathered to discuss their newfound knowledge, Androth undertook a journey to his homeland and Andy continued his patrols of the region with his men. Details of the conversation of the learned will be ignored as more than a little boring, and Androth has spoken but little of his trip.

Andy's trip was more eventful for he and his men found a bedraggled pair of adventurers in the wood. They claimed they were being followed and they were the remains of a larger party. Andy welcomed the pair, an elf and a halfling, then doubled his watch. The vigilance of his men was sufficient and no attack was made against them during the night.

In the morning they completed their trip and returned to the city for fresh supplies and a few days off. The elf and halfling were taken to see Darran who, upon hearing they had been beset by trolls, had Malz and Androth join them. The tale was unusual, for they encountered more trolls than was common and described them as being reasonably intelligent.

The group determined to pursue the trolls in the morning and Darran arranged for the pair to spend the night at the town's only inn. Andy spent a little time interogating them and discovered little more than their names, the elf is called Farinoth and the halfling is Berengai.

Around three in the morning, the alarm bells sounded - the town was under attack. Responding quickly, the members of the company rushed to the disturbance, which was centered on the inn. Malz, Andy and Harkonen arrived in time to see a troll launched from the second floor window of the inn. There were a total of six trolls and they were fighting with the guard. The elf and halfling joined the fray as the company did.

Once the adventurers were involved, the trolls were not long for the world. Malz used his radiant arch to incinerate several of them while his companions spells left them confused and disoriented. The trolls were dead, save one, in a matter of minutes. That one, who had not joined the melee, yelled something, apparently in troll, before trying to escape.

The troll leapt the town wall, nearly 12' high, but was hit in the back with one of Malz heat rays. Andy, Androth and Harkonen were right behind it, but there was no sign of it, save for the spot where it had landed, on the other side of the wall. The remaining trolls were burned and arrangements were made for the burial of the ten guardsmen slain in the battle.

With Harkonen involved, it was decided that further interrogation of the duo was necessary. Where the elf had talked previously, this time the halfling did most of the talking. The interrogation was hampered by the halflings near refusal to answer a question with other than another question. In the end, the company was convinced that the pair had taken something from the trolls that they wanted back.

Rather than risk a second attack on the town, they forced the two to accompany them when they left in the morning.
