Prelude

Somewhere in the Capital
What do you mean you didn't get anything?
It was too hard, they watched like hawks, and that Urbane was always counting and writing things down
Urbane huh. Well, we'll take care of his holiness soon.

Elsewhere in Ansalea
Why should I trust you?
You need friends and I'm willing to help
And that's supposed to make me trust you?
It's either me or Gruash, take your pick.
I hate this. Very well, I don't trust you, but you can join us.
Good. Now, about this Ansalea X Company

Summary of the Adventure

The shareholders of the Company of the Ax went their separate ways, with the Elven types headed for the village of Silvery Falls, while Urbane and Calidon made plans to get the rest of the loot from Karvel's vault. Daran had a different vision and was working with the town wizard, Mestes, to get some items identified.

Meanwhile, the non-Ax group decided to visit the wizard and the captain of the guard and ask about adventuring opportunities. They arrvied while Daran was still at the wizard's house. Once Daran was dismissed, he asked them to head north to one of the islands and find a book there that had fallen into orcish hands.

On their way back from Silvery Falls, Taernac and Androth bumped into the halfling who inquired after their health. When they asked politely about the fish and their wisdom, he told them they had much to learn and took them to a pond so they could meet some fish. He showed them where their "friends" were and explained that they were in great danger. He persuaded the two of them to go for a swim, then knocked them both into the water face first.

Calidon and Urbane headed back to the Vault with a crew to retrieve the treasure there. When they arrived, they found that they had been beaten to the punch; more than a score of orcs were there, working on building a palisade around the vaults. It appeared that both Larissa and Methil were in league with the orcs. Deciding on the better part of valor, they headed back towards town for reinforcements. Along the way, they encountered a freakish storm which somehow transported them elsewhere

The last group consisting of Daran (recently recruited by Cedric), Bailock, Cedric, Andy, Draynor and Jamieson headed north to the islands where they were joined by the other two groups who were mystically transported to the island.

They scouted the island and decided to send Andy and Jamieson in to see if they could kill the orc chieftain. Things went pretty well until Jamieson accidentally kicked over a cup and woke up two orc guards. Andy tried to throw a vial of poison into the orc chieftains room, but in his haste, it detonated in the room they were in. As he tried to drag Jamieson out, Andy was struck unconscious by the orc chief.

A battle ensued which the group eventually won, but it was hard fought. The book was recovered, along with a few other items of treasure. At the end, Draynor turned up missing. Investigation revealed that he had set two boots adrift and used the third to head for shore where he stole all the horses and headed for town.

The group trailed Daynor back to town, resolving to bring him to justice. Along the way, they also decided not to turn the book over to the mage until they'd had someone else look at it first. They resolved to have Pendergrast examine it. The halfling showed up and suggested they should give him the book since the fish wanted him to have it. They demurred and he left

Arriving in town the group discovered that Draynor had told everyone they were dead and sold their horses to get money for their families. He also skippped town. They learned that the wizard Mestes was probably not the right sort of person to have the book.

The adventure ended with the group headed to the town of Olaf Springs to try and catch up with Draynor and do some other research.

In Character Moment of the Night

The group arrives at Mestes' house. He asks Daran to get the door for him since he's closer.

...Later...Androth: (To Taernac & Jameson) I think we should do X with the book, after all what do you guys know about Magic Books...
Jameson: Lots
Taernac (to Androth) : KNOW YOUR ROLE!
Jameson: Your role is to point your arrows at something and kill it. Leave the other stuff to people who know what they are doing...

Bailock: Not really... hurry up!
