#31 #31: About a Crown
The Hook
Some rude dwarves expect us to find a crown for them.
Prelude
In Westhaven
Dwarf King: I will pay 1000 gold for the return of my crown
Crowd: Murmurs appreciatively.
Summary
Deep in the dungeon, the group debated whether or not to attack the dragon. It was a dangerous task and after several minutes debate, it was decided to return to the surface for now.
When they arrived, the town was nearly empty; they soon discovered that a trio of dwarves were in town looking for a missing crown and offering 1000 gold for its return. They had a human with them who claimed to have tracked the thief to Westhavenl; further, he claimed the thief looked like Bornon.
Arric asked about Dwarven heroes to look for the corwn and was rebuffed and then treated poorly by the dwarves. He ordered them out of the Shrine and they reluctantly complied. The human was slow to leave and wound up in a disagreement with BAMF.
Bornon said the group the human was undead and evil. That was enough for Alon, who quickly decided to disintegrate him. He survived that only to fall when BAMF cut him down.
BAMF decided to talk to the dwarves and wound up accepting their mission. The group offered a 500 gold reward for information and the tanner's son quickly told them he'd seen a man steal a boat. Alon investigated and found a trail of dead fish and plants which eventually led him to a cave.
He retrieved the others and they entered together. They moved quickly, killing several foul beasts and making their way through a series of traps until they found the crown. It was on a pedestal in the middle of a round room that just seemed to scream trap. Alon used his mage hnd to retrieve it but as soon as he took it from the mage hand, he was felled by poison. Luckily the bright attendant found him in favor and the poison was burned from his system quickly.
They explored more rooms eventually coming out of the water for find a room with two guys who looked vaguely like Bornon. The two men charged and one was chopped to bits by BAMF while the other was knocked unconscious by Bornon. They questioned him and learned he didn't know much, had decided to look more like Bornon, and knew that there was an Underdark trade route nearby.
They returned to the top and returned the crown to the dwarf king's agents along with an oyster with some dwarven curse on it. He seemed happy.
BAMF paid the tanner's son and took him in as an apprentice. The boy was fearful for his life & gold, so BAMF had a talk with the tanner and his son. The next day, he got a visit from the captain of the guard asking him not to threaten any more townspeople.
