The Hook

The party teleports to Westhaven to stop the undead. But, have they arrived in time?

Prelude

In Westhaven
Guard: Captain they are nearly here!

Captain of the guard: Ready the men Sargent. Make sure as many have magic weapons as possible. Make sure the adventurers help where they can.



Outside of Westhaven

Ready my brethren, we must strike fast and increase our numbers before the would be heroes and that damnable priest show up.

Summary

The Heroes of Westhaven arrive to find the town in some level of disarray. Soldiers and adventurers have gathered, but the citizens mostly seem not to believe what's coming and so they are asleep in their beds when the first of the horde starts to arrive.

The group engages with a baykok after hearing it kill a few guardsmen. It is a tough battle with the creature easily able to hit them and several fo them quickly wind up with negative levels from the creatures hideous power. Luckily, Alon and Arric are able to destroy it, but there is a cost: Fergus of the Dancing Wolf is killed.

Moments later, there is an alarm cry on the east side of town. Concerned that it's a distraction, Alon and Arric stay on the northern edge, while Ropp and Bornon move to intercept.A group of wraiths arrives and is quickly engaged. They leave both of the heroes feeling weak but are eventually slain with the help of a fireball from one of the other wizards in town.

Arric and Alon find their hands full as a Spinal Lasher glides in unseen and attacks them. Luckily, the Sacred Attendant protects them both as they battle the hideous beast. At the end, they are left triumphant but drained.

As the group tries to catch its collective breath a number of waterlogged orcs appear from the shore, but they are no match for the seasoned heroes who manage to put them down.

Luckily, daybreak arrives and some of the undead who remain are wary of attacking again and flee into dark places to hide. Arric and the other attendants of the Shrine work diligently to save those who can still be saved and to put those who can't to rest.

Bornon takes a small contingent of soldiers to explore the road once he's healed. They put down a few undead vermin, but nothing particularly dangerous presents itself.
